... and the immaculate conception! After a lovely outdoor lunch we drove almost two hours to our hotel for tonight - Porto Otilio - down a steep windy road to the coast. I have a lovely room - with very bad wifi reception - with an ocean view. I went swimming in the Ionian Sea area of the Mediteranean as well as in the lovely hotel pool. A lot of us would like to stay in this quiet beautiful spot - but we have the Diros Caves and Kardamyli to see - and will sleep in Olympia tomorrow ...

The hurting Greek economy is visible everywhere, in the abandoned houses, the stories from locals, prices, etc. Yet every person we stopped to ask directions on the street left us with a smile, a wave and questionable directions at best. After three months of beaches, wet dogs and humans, picnics, occasional overnight trips etc it is not fit for human habitation. First things first. Cup of tea at 6 am from Patrick. Dogs to Peroulia beach for walk ...

Off to Harakopio first thing to pharmacy for dogs' tick and flea treatments. Then Koroni by 10 am for coffee by harbour, bank and then picnic shopping. The baker does lovely crusty rolls full of cheese, ham and tomato. A bag of fruit and a bottle ...

... with weeds. It is really quite sad to see, particularly when every single Greek person we’ve meet has been incredibly friendly, helpful and welcoming. They deserve better.

Of course, these kinds of thoughts didn’t enter my head as we bounced up and down the heavily rutted road. The speed limit would change literally about 5 times every 10kms. None of the locals paid any attention to it; 100km/h plus was the going travel speed. The police didn’t seem ...
