          ... a grip on reality.

We pulled up at the landing of the St Regis and three people joined us, an older couple and a girl who looked to be in her mid-20s. I thought to myself we are in for a day of pain here (thinking precious people) but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The girl was actually a pastry chef at the hotel and her parents were visiting, I’m presuming either comp or on a very good staff rate. The three of them were really nice ...

... and you can see rain lashing down on their slopes, the coastline below usually seems to escape this rainfall. We left Bora Bora this morning, wallet rather lighter having settled the frightening bill. At least I had prepared for it for some time in advance. In fact dining and drinking out was not as bad as I had been led to fear. Angela and I seemed to have some pretty good dinners with wine and cocktails for about £70-£80 total. ...

After a slightly confused and roundabout journey to get there we had a lovely meal on a terrace next the lagoon. I had a brief visitor at table...a brave crab wandered up to say hello. The Wahoo carpaccio was fabulous. Today, as you may have gathered was about doing as little as possible and having fun doing ...

... Butterfly fish, parrot fish, small brilliant blue fish, a hermit crab or two, and other stripy and multicoloured fishes. We were 'attacked' by a parrot fish guarding her eggs, she darted up to us if we got too close trying to scare us away. We nearly had a major disaster, Angus discovered the waterproof camera had fallen out of his pocket 'at some point in the last half hour' and we spent a merry time trying to remember where he had been swimming. I eventually found ...

... there are not enough guests...great for us, but not for the chef. We plan to eat elsewhere tomorrow. The best of the evening proved to be a wide ranging bar singer with a cracking voice. We listened to Bob Marley, Coldplay and Pink Floyd amongst others. Sitting under coconut trees in a hammock watching the stars and listening to 'The Wall' is wonderfully surreal. We are now doing our best to annoy room service by ordering a jug of milk ...
