Upon recommendation from some friends on our trip to Peru we booked a night at a club called Cocobongos. We were headed for Akumal with Aude today, a short drive south from Playa, to dive and snorkel with turtles. Apparently the name of the place is derived from the Mayan words - Aku 'turtle' and Mal ' the place of'. The foreshore is a feeding ground for the turtles and the nearby reef is used as a resting station after feeding - we were guaranteed to see a turtle.

Obviously all the main restaurants on the sea front are expensive because this is where the Cruise ships dock so it's tourist central. On Friday evening after dinner we went back to the theater and enjoyed a magic show. Again it was delightfully cheesy but they actually performed some pretty good tricks. Afterwards they had live music at the rooftop bar. It was a Mexican boy band. We were much more subdued this night and had a glass of wine and went to bed at a reasonable hour.
