... a tree trunk bridge & going through the bamboo forest, but turned back just before the fright fork that would have got me to other swimming holes.

Finally back on route, found the falls but the river was so swollen after recent rains I was dubious about going into the main flow & getting washed down to the lower pool from which there was no way out except down. Went in at the smaller side falls which were more sedate.

... more around, and one monkey quickly turned into about a dozen monkeys. I had poked into a far corner by the fence to try to get a picture of a nearby monkey, when all the sudden the monkey started heading straight at me, flying pretty quickly through the trees. Luckily, it stopped about 5-10 feet away, and proceeded to do cute things, almost as if it was posing for pictures. We watched this troupe of monkeys for quite a while, as they were putting on a ...

San Isidro-- Driving the Moutain of Death

After dropping Bev off at the airport we headed straight out of town. Of course this took us a good hour due to traffic and the inability to get proper directions! The map I we had purchased at a hotel the day when we came into the country was supposedly up-to-date, but so far I had counted around 10 mistakes. The San Jose portion was no different. By the time we got out of the city it was around 3 PM so we only had a few hours of daylight left and we still had to go ...

Day 7 - Quepos

... for the sunset. No luck unfortunately, but it certainly was beautiful. I eventually found him at a local bar having mojitos with Debbie, Laurie and Brian. It causes me some anxiety not having a cell phone when I'm trying to find Sean or whomever, but it has been remarkably easy to find one another when we separate. They are such small towns, it's a breeze. In fact it's kind of fun to think, 'well he's not at the restaurant yet, where would he have gone...' Wonder around a ...

... in a plastic bag and a racoon was trying its utmost to extract the bag from my rucksack, literally at my feet! Shy is not a word to use to describe these animals. We had a good tug-of-war going on but in the end the racoon won when he finally extracted the plastic bag and scampered off into the undergrowth. Even me giving him a kick or two did not deter him from his goal!

Day 7- Leaving Monteverde for Quepos, Wednesday

... where tourists park and walk over a bridge on the route to Quepos. It is the Tarcoles River Bridge where crocodiles hang under the bridge. QUEPOS (pronounced Kay-pos) Quepos is fishing port that has grown into a large town. Quepos is located on the Pacific coast and it definitly has its own personality, quite rundown. Arriving at Quepos, we were met by a very rundown town. We worried about where were were staying there. It has a ...
