Bar is a port town in Montenegro. It took us about 5 hours or so to get there by bus from Dubrovnik. The first thing we did was use the bathroom. Of course the station restrooms had holes in the floor for the toilets and little foot areas so you could squat down over the hole. I still don't understand how women are expected to pee that way. It’s so difficult- not to mention gross- at the same time. And, we had to pay for it ...
Bar, Serbia and Montenegro mdaa... clearly upset that Montenegro was being left out of political decision making & felt they had been unfairly punished with sanctions during the war.

The 99% humidity finally broke when it started to rain, and the evening ...
Kotor, Serbia and Montenegro kegibson... out to the beach for the millions of (mostly Russian) tourists that come each season to soak up the sun.

Our hostel turned out to be an apartment above someone's house again - small and family run. The son came back from Germany after the war, started a family, and opened a hostel where his mother and father live, and his 3 brothers visit often. His children play in the yard with the tourists and his wife ...
Budva, Montenegro maam... feathered salt and pepper colored hair not saying much except for an occasional laugh and nod at us. I wondered wherefore Darko a man about thirty would associate with such an older person, as for me being several years older than Darko, I thought to myself, what a cute guy. Then upon closer inspection, I realized it was doctor Radovan Karadzic. I knew he was a psychiatrist. By no means was this to be our last meeting. Throughout the time I spent in Serbia Darko met with Karadzic ...
Serbia and Montenegro, Serbia lpcyu... Cool" I replied, slightly disappointed. "Where else do you plan to travel?" he asked. I explained the other countries I planned to visit, without mentioning either Kosovo or Albania, both very much on the itinerary. "Many places" he said "When I travel I like to interfere with the people where I go." I think he meant "interact", but interfere is amusing. "Yeah" I agreed, "It's always good to meet local people" "Yes" Constantine ...
Podgorica, Montenegro englishanddrunk... was all very nice. We didn't stop to see anything else and continued on the road towards Kotor. Kotor is an old town set in southern Europe's biggest fjord, it is a truly spectacular place. We found a place near the water to park for free and wandered into town. It was a hot day so we found somewhere to sit and have a beer, and were very happy with the price, 3 Euros for a liter! We wandered around the town all afternoon and stopped every so often for a beer and a rest. There weren ...
Kotor, Serbia and Montenegro laine... or maybe they didn't want to fight the feisty Montenegrins for this very hardscrabble, but beautiful piece of the world. If rocks were gold, the Irish and the Montenegrins would rule the world!! But sadly for them - and fortunately for the rest of us - this is not the case. And the geologically challenged Montenegrins are stuck with a lot of worthless rocks to move about and build ...
Kotor, Kotor, Serbia and Montenegro gr8escape... if to say, "maybe we should just get back on the bus before it departs.". But the bus took off, and we stood there trying to make sense of the area and wondering where to start. Finally, we ran into someone who spoke english, who told us that we were on the outskirts of the town, and the town center was actually 3km "that way".... OOhhhh. Ok. theres a town center. That felt better, so we started to walk "that way", and eventually came to a more inhabited ...
Kotor, Serbia and Montenegro trg7Ok so starting off with a bit of a geography lesson. Montenegro actually became its own country about one month ago (before it was Serbia & Montenegro). Previously Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia were all part of Yugoslavia, but now they are each independed countires. Ok done with the lesson, on to my day. Kotor has this little village where when you walk into it you feel like you are in the Medieval Times. It was ...
Kotor, Serbia and Montenegro sunnygurl... available inch of the beach was packed with people. It was crazy. There was even a man walking around with a monkey for people to have their photos taken. It seems everyone in Serbia and Montengro goes to Budva in July. A boy we met later on the train said that a lot of Serbians still won't go to Croatia so I guess it's the only seaside they have access to for holidays in the summer unless they go further down to Greece. Anyway, we braved the crowds for a little bit to cool ...
