Off to Umbria

... are teeming with families, young people and older folks just walking enjoying the cool weather, hot coffee and all sorts of chocolate products. I even caught a wedding happening on Sunday. We have another two days here and will return to Rome on Wednesday afternoon….just in time for dinner and a full day of touring before heading back hone on Friday morning.

Best to all back home,

Not a bad place to spend the night...

... was out for their evening passeo - walk. The gelateria's and cafes were overflowing with people. I spied a deli with a spit raosted pig lying on display in the window and got the best pork sandwich ever!!! Too late to go on we decided to park up. We had accidentially drained our leisure battery so Kim had to cook by torch but the torch battery was running out..so no other choice, we headed for a bar! Life's tough.

In the Pits... and it's very pretty

... aqua duct. As we had a double celebration we celebrated with our last 2 bottles of pink champagne and opened the Fois gras we had bought in France! We enjoyed this pissnic as the sun went down and we were blessed with a wonderful sunset that kept going and going. Once the sun went down we drank in the views of the old town which lit up at night. 21st We really wanted a sleep in this morning as our heads were a little fuzzy from all the bubbles of last night but ...

St Antimo Abbey

Down the road from Montalcino we popped into St Antimo Abbey where the local monks say their (7!!) daily prayers in Georgian chants. We caught part of the 12.45pm prayers and enjoyed some down time while listening the chanting. The afternoon was glorious and once again we were in tshirts, so we made the most of it and had a picnic in the sun beside the Abbey.

Is 10am too early for wine tasting?

... just! We found a cute little coffee shop that had the best views over the valley from the toilet of all places!!! Oh yeah and the coffee was good too! Stocked up on some well needed groceries as Scooby's cupboards were bare, then it was time to sample the local Brunello di Montalcino. Brunello must stay in the barrel for 5 years ...

Drive through Le Crete

From Chianti went south to the Le Crete region. The drive provided us with more quintessential Tuscan scenery. We stayed overnight in Asciano as we could not make it to Montalcino before dark. We had vowed not to drive in the dark as the small windy roads and excessively erratic Italian drivers are not good for our nerves!

Cioccolato

... pizzeria where I had delicious lasagna. After lunch we browsed through the many stands. Sample after sample led to some major purchases. It was hard to pass up the various chocolate products when the smell just filled the air. There was everything from chocolate beer to chocolate “pills” to chocolate pasta!!

Heaven.

I’ll update you soon,

Wine tourism in Italy

... is very, very nice to visit, to relax, spend some romantic moments and to enjoy life. The accommodations in Tuscany are mostly typical for this region. Many country inns (agriturismi) and castles are pleased to welcome you for a fantastic break out of your every days life. To complete your trip to Tuscany, there is a wide variety of typical dishes you can enjoy, obviously accompanied by a delicious glass of wine ...

Tuscany and Umbria - Part II

... that out a few times. Basically what happened, they were hiking when they found an opening in the mountain side. They began exploring a bit and discovered a huge drop. They weren't sure where it led but from that point, something they appropriately called the Ledge of Fear, they dropped a few rocks to figure out what they had found in the darkness. Each rock took 7 seconds to hit the ground. They knew that whatever it was, it was big. They returned to town and 2 days later came back ...
