Small village on the main road but Tucan Hotel set back. Not cheap and only 2 showers/toilets shared between up to 4 people in treehouse, 4 in hammocks, multiple others camping plus 12 people in dorms when fully occupied. Female shower/toilet always full of men as bigger - thankfully came when quiet.

Cocked up the directions to the falls, Cascadas Verde & didn't turn left before hardware store. Ended up crossing the river ...

the iguana story

... other sites as well). it may be more interesting to see the video first. . .

The male iguana iguana (aka Green Iguanas) possess a row of spines along their backs and along their tails which helps to protect them from predators.
The males that are considered dominant are often orange, pink or red colored.

Although the herbivores usually have enough food to go ...

San Isidro-- Driving the Moutain of Death

... the Moutain of Death.

The Moutain of Death is a mountain range on the InterAmerican Highway that got that name long before cars were around when people used to cross this moutain range by foot, horse, or donkey. Many people died back then and this moutain was almost the dealth of poor Wesley as well! We barely made it over the pass as Wesley was sputtering, blowing smoke, and wouldn´t go over 40 kms. We even pulled over and Devin replaced the fuel filter as ...

... is a pretty sweet lifestyle. This english guy has been here for 3 months and his philosophy is to sit in this hammock untill he has come up with an idea and then go do it. I was thinking that is an excelent way of life and might just have to adopt that. ha As far as doing yoga It has not even happened. haha I have done some meditations which have been great but its really to hot for yoga. Anyway I was going to stay a week here but I ...

More beach time...

... The ability to cycle up steep hills with a passenger on your handlebars? Nope, they do that in Nicaragua too. Again, I don't want to offend the locals. This is a genuine question: what defines the Costa Ricans and sets them apart from other Central American nations? Answers on a postcard please... And once again, for those who are interested, this is probably the best beachbreak I've surfed in my life.

Moving (on) Mountains

... makes me bring, I rooted to the bottom of my bag and came up with my ticket to freedom, my U.S. citizenship card. Handing it to him with a lightened sense of being, I was absolutely shocked by his reaction. I could only watch as he crumpled up my last resort and threw at me, almost yelling: "Do you realize that it is against the law to show an officer a photocopy of a legal document?!" Of course, not realizing this, I was speechless. That was okay, because ...

Dominical and Uvita

... ground while meticulously cutting up the leaves of one poor tree. What I liked about dominical was that our room was right on the beach, so a quick swim didn't take any planning. Also, the town had a much less developed feel - our guidebook descibed it as what Costa Rica would've been like 20 years ago. Houses, hotels and sodas (diners) mixed amongst ...

Santa Teresa

... to Santa Teresa, a surfing town Rory's buddy Steve lived in for a month. This place is so laid back that all we wanted to do was mellow out in hammocks, read on the beach, and walk up and down the muddy road (which made for some very acrobatic falls). We did give surfing a try, but got thrashed by the rocks, and quickly scampered back to the beach with our tails between our legs. But at least we gave it a shot.
