Nino, a neighbour & friend of the posada, came to the pier with me to find a boat with other passengers so I could get to Playa Medina – hung around waiting for ages having been assured by some unsavoury type that others were coming from another Posada – I was dubious, as had checked with them the previous night. Sure enough, by 10, 2 hours later, there was no-one, so had to pay extra (300 instead of 200) to go by ...

Managed to sleep despite the pyrotechnics and constantly barking dog.

Had heard there was a good local fish and other produce market on the quay early am, so headed down – very lively and interesting catches – shame about all the really small sharks (less than a foot) that will not grow into adults. We went straight to a posada when we arrived there then went for a walk. It is such a little place and i felt so comfortable there. Everyone was really friendly and when we had come back from the beach the posadas owners friend was there called charlie and he took us on his motorbike to venezuelas very own version of ...

arrived in rio caribe, bought food and water and took a little truck to san juan. 2 hours of mountain roads at the coast. when i arrived in this very little town, searching for a place to put my tent, EVERYBODY told me not to do that, because of danger - lots of people got robbed, some killed.
the army was so nice to let me put my tent in ...
