Samoan bus system (and hierarchy)

... means you can catch a bus anywhere you're standing if you see one coming along. To let the driver know you want to get off the bus, either knock on the window or on the ceiling as loudly as you can. You must pay the driver AS you are getting off the bus (not while getting on).

Most visitors don't realize it, but there is actually a seating hierarchy on Samoan buses. Typically, elders sit in the front, followed by women and children, then all the ...

... smaller islands along the way.

Once off the ferry a huge crowd of taxi drivers were waiting and all kept coming up to us asking "taxi, taxi?" Me and the elderly Samoan woman walked right past them and she showed me which way to start walking since the first resort I made plans to stay was only a 10minute walk away from the ferry wharf. During my entire 10 minute walk, I had a ...

Samoan Security!!!

So, although it hadn't been planned on the original itinerary, our journey to Hawaii would go via Samoa. This added an extra 2 hours to the journey but would allow us to spend some more time in Los Angeles. As is the nature of our international traveling of late, something could and was likely to go wrong. All of the luck in the earlier stages of the trip would appear to be LONG ...

Tuesday - Day 2

We took the Cross Island Road to the south side of the island to the village of Salamumu. It was a leisurely trip as the speed limit on the island is understood to be 60kmph (any faster and you could not stop for the pigs, dogs and potholes that frequent the things they call roads here). They also drive on the right-hand side of the road (left-hand drive vehicles) which ...

Samoa, land of smiles

Samoa - teist korda 29. veebruar

... sna pisikestele selge.

First days in Samoa

... and has actually house many governors of Samoa in the years since his death. We had actually been standing in the room where he died, aged 44, of a brain hemorrhage, a bit morbid but fascinating nonetheless. The weather took a slight turn for the worse as we headed towards the Baha'i temple. It was so foggy that we couldn't see the temple from more than 10 metres away. So we're hopefully gonna go back on a nicer day. However, we ...

The Perfect Way to End The Trip

... from tailand in the back of the last office depot I walked into had more to do with their poor inventory managment than my particular artistic demands being met by a forward thinking buisness. That being said, This was definitely one of the high points of my three month adventure and I recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind trading walls for tarps and eating family style with fascinating strangers.
