    In The Beginning

In the beginning was the backpack. And a bed covered in stuff. And all the stuff on the bed had to somehow fit inside the backpack. This is my forclaz easyfit backpack, it fits 60 litres of stuff (actually quite a lot) and at the beginning it is an empty slate: everything that I will need for ...

Walking in the footsteps of REAL Heroes

Today is Saturday, December 13th 2014. This was the day I was looking forward to the most on my trip. This was my full day in Bastogne. No schedule. No where to be. Just me, my camera, my Band of Brothers and Patton movie soundtrack tunes (along with a lot of other patriotic music) and my desire to see as much as possible. My idea was to hit the Battle of the Bulge memorial and museum and then make my way out of the town to try to find the Easy Company ...

Which is probably what the locals and other visitors thought as about a hundred Aggies descended on the small town of Bastogne, Belgium. Bastogne is a town that really promotes it's historical heritage. The siege last for about 7 days and the town was crucial to the Germans as ...

We spent the morning exploring Oostende by bicycle. The town
is extremely neat and clean and really quite a nice place to be. We essentially
made a circuit that included the beach front and parts of the city. The beach
is long, wide and sandy and actually reminded me a lot of our beach back home
in Mtunzini. There were quite a few guys fishing off the piers and we actually
saw a fish being caught. It was all of ...

... assessed we went to explore old town.

Old town was really pretty. Nice blue stone buildings all from the local quarry. A castle and a church in the heart of town. There were two similar rock structures which we still don't know quite what they were. These were round semi circles in the rock face. Estimating about 20m high... so large.

Once we explored the town we went to the larges topiary garden open to the public IN THE WORLD. ...
