      ... than normal, we spotted this place a few doors up from our hotel and were beckoned inside by the beaming owner. "Sit, sit" he cried as we found ourselves the only customers (not uncommon here). After perusing the menu for 4.5 seconds he reappeared shouting "For food you must tell this what you want" shoving a waitress ahead of him. Quick service being rare we jumped at the chance and all called out orders to the waitress ...

      ... t get to pool until aftter 3pm, which meant we could just abouut get a sunbed, but before that it would have been tricky as busy.

      Beach has been hit by erosion and has a mini cliff edge (1 metre!), but although it may not look as nice as those in Banjul and Bakau, the sea here was swimmable (although red flag every day we were there) , we wen in every day. My girlf was a bit scared of waves, but I thought it was ruddy brilliant!

      ... off main street, so don’t get bumstered! You get to see local life and are greeted by people not expecting anything in return, very pleasant. We were not allowed in mosque as not muslim, but they seemed very apologetic!

      We went to international football match Gambia v Algeria which was quite an experience, although result (1-2) was a shame. Took green taxi from Bakau for 50D, and tickets for 100D – we would recommened these over the 50D tickets ...

      We stopped for our mid-day rest at Nyanya's Beach Restaurant in Tanji. By now we were getting to know JJ better and realised how lucky we were to have him as a guide - the number of birds we'd seen so far was phenomenal and birds we'd only hoped to see before arriving in The Gambia were now a reality or real possibilities!
