... sleeping and staying dry. Alex decided he was coming to Colorado with me which definitely helped lift my mood. We spent the weekend getting all of our gear together, then headed off for real.
It was hard saying goodbye to everyone, particularly Maciej. I hope we can stay in contact.
Our transit to Colorado ended up taking almost 5 days, but it was some of the best of my entire trip. Alex and I talked philosophy for hours, I started writing some poetry and Alex began ...

Very pristine environment above the tree line. Not a good place to be in the middle of winter.....
Beautiful views and the Aspen trees just beginning to change colour as winter approaches....

... follow one or another of the recommended byways instead of an interstate highway. Leaving Rocky Mountain National Park, we headed for the "Top of the Rockies" scenic byway, that passes by Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive, the two tallest peaks in the state.

We drove into the historic town of Leadville and immediately felt welcomed and drawn to the area. Afternoon sun was setting behind the mountains and rain laden clouds were ...
