    ... and to have the guy wait for us was about AUD$50. I paid up and we went. Judging by the absolute silence of the driver, we had either annoyed him royally or we actually paid a reasonable price as drivers are normally chatty people.

    The road from Chaweng through Lamai was nice enough and you could see why the trip takes an hour each way - the centre of the island had a bloody great range on it and you can only drive around.

    ... back into the water with one of my flippers but then a local came with a shovel and told me to be careful By now quite a few people had gathered around. it seemed to me that the Thai guy was trying to kill the ray rather than save it, then a local woman started to shout something at him.
