Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard
We had quite a chilled day today (and our camera temporarily broke and then we weirdly forgot to take photos?!).
The plan was to be on the road by 7.30am so the mothership woke me up at 6am. Really, 6am! I was super stroppy. Luckily she presented with me with a coffee the size of my head. That does help in these situations.

Az egyik csaj elvigyorodik: „No problem! Day 1
... much what I had expected but prettier. Getting the bus was ideal I thought, given that we had such limited time & it was my first visit. We are leaving tomorrow morning so this is all I will see of Los Angeles on this trip & if I had to choose one word to describe it, it would be "casual". We didn't visit "the concrete jungle" but Damien assures me that we haven't missed ...

Historical Traveler Reviews San Vicente Inn West Hollywood
Another example of gay businesses exploiting gay clientele
Stayed @SV Inn for the West Hollywood Halloween celebration and had a fab time at the event. We chose the hotel for the location (which is great) and for the pics on it's website (totally deceiving). This hotel looks like the Manson Family lived here and left their furniture behind them. The room was filthy and the entire facility is in various stages of neglect and disrepair. I woke up @4am to people smoking crack cocaine on the deck. Sure there were some cute guys there but that hardly cuts it in such a depressing, dirty fleabag dump. The staff tried to be as curteous as possible under the circumstances, but it was like serving Christmas Dinner in a dumpster. No dice.
What a Horrible Place to Stay
Whatever you do, don't stay here.
Although they have a nice pool area that you can suntan in the buff, this does not make up for how awful and disgusting the rooms are.
I started off in a suite. Booked it because I thought a suite would be nicer than the cheaper rooms. Well, neither were bareable. I did downgrade to the regular room, but both had ugly, mold-smelling green shag carpet. The place smelt like it hadn't been cleaned in months and needed to be dried out.
I did "check out" a few other rooms as I "visitied" with other guests. All the rooms seemed to be horrible.
The only bright spots were that the staff was great, the guest were fun and the pool is well maintained.
If the owners ever read this post this part is for You. Paint the walls, Rip out that carpet and lay down some cheap fake hardwood floors. Just do that and your place would improve a thousand times over.
If you really want to visit this place, I recommend you stay somewhere else and just buy a day pass for the Pool area.
Absolute Paradise in the Heart of the city
My partner and I stayed at the San Vicente Inn in West Hollywood just this past weekend. Wow what a great time we had. What great eye candy around the pool. Being a bit older than some of the guys that were staying there I thought that perhaps my partner and I might just be keeping to ourselves. Well that was not the case. Everybody mixes well at the Inn. I must admit that at night it is a bit busy with people enjoying the pool area after the clubs close. What can you expect? The Inn is just steps away from Santa Monica Blvd where all the action is. The Inn has one of the more coutious staff anywhere around.
Barely passable as an acceptable place to stay
I've stayed at a few very nice gay hotels/B&Bs across the country and had high hopes for this one. The location can't be beat if you want to visit the local gay bars and restaurants. The walk couldn't be shorter. That said, I was pretty disappointed. Parking was difficult and very tight. The staff was distant and read me the rules more than they did welcome me to their property. The pool is TINY and I don't know how anyone gets any sun with all those chairs crammed up against the wall and under the trees. Then there was the room......mine was way back in the back, at the end of a very dark hallway. The door was no different than you would find inside your house, with a small button on the doorknob to lock it. I really didn't feel secure, the way I would in a normal hotel with a deadbolt and heavy door. Especially since this is a place where random daytrippers can pay to come in and hang out along with the guests. The air conditioner really didn't pump much cold air and the carpets seemed grimy. The bed wasn't too bad, but the blankets were full of holes and stains. Bathroom was OK, but the shower could have used a bottle of mildew killer. No closet, no hangers. Phone from 1970. TV was great - nearly brand new. So, while I didn't run in horror from this place, it was a relief to leave, knowing I wouldn't stay there again, nor would I recommend it. It's too bad because, once again, the location is absolutely the best.
Give gay hotels a bad name
Spent 2 nights there after 2 nights in a great gay hotel in Palm Springs. The location is good but the room was dirty, there were no towels or soap and when I asked for them I only got towels - no soap- one of which had huge stains on it. The floor was filthy and not vacumed during my stay. The key to the door required 5 or 6 attemps to open it, Lamp with burnt-out bulb, refrigerator handle broken... The $15 per day parking is a hassle and the crowd was not great either. The Ramada down the street is as good in location and probably much cleaner.
Planning to go back ...
The grounds of the hotel are warm and intimate. The water in the center of the Inn is too small to be a pool and too big to be a hot tub (there is a separate hot tub). It is crystal clean! I was disappointed when I got into my reseved "buddy" room. Fortunately, the shared toilet overflowed and I was bumped up to a very nice private room. The staff is professional but not friendly. The work out room is more than adequate, but not well maintained. All of that said: I had a great time! Hot and cold running men! The Inn is well located and has free parking. However, I was able to walk to gay restaurants etc. The grounds are set up for more than crusing, with a great array of nooks and crannies to escape to for,and with, the day trippers. I would definately go there again.(My visit was September 2004.)
Average Gay B&B
Average gay B&B that caters to a male clientele. Great location within easy walking distance of clubs, restaurants, etc. Breakfast is OK. My room was small and cramped - even for one person! Get a suite if you plan to stay here.
Relaxing in WeHo
Great place to relax. Love the staff, very friendly and happy. LOVED some of the guests. Been there twice mid 2002 and in 2003. Going back lat Oct 2004. Close to some nice bars.
Gentlemen's Countryclub in the City
I have stayed here twice, both times enjoyed my stay very much. Friendly management and guests, great landscaped areas and a nice pool, sun deck and jacuzzi. Day passes are also available if you want to check out the facility before staying.
It is well located on San Vicente Blvd. near the centre of West Hollywood, and parking is available. There is little on site catering (apart from an adequate light breakfast), but plenty of great cafes a short walk away.
Rooms can look a bit tired (2004), bathrooms could do with a makeover, televisions and VCRs are a little older than I would have hoped for, but the overall property is of a good standard.
If you are looking for a comfortable mid range hotel, with the benefit of an all male clientele this is a great option, an oasis retreat in the city.
FUN PLACE
Stayed there in April this year 2004 - week after Easter. Had been to the White Party in Palm Springs and was recommended the San V Inn by a guy we met there. There were 3 of us travelling together - so we booked 2 rooms. We were given a complimentary upgrade to suites. The suites were very comfortable and cosy. Off street parking was available for our Hertz car. The hotel is clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. It is a private gay mens retreat - so expect all that that entails BUT it is not sleazy and the bad reputation that it has in some places seems related to a period prior to the current management when the place was somewhat sleazy. It is not that now. Internet is available in your room or at a pay machine. There is a swimming pool and a spa. The grounds are nicely 'greened' and there is a complimentary breakfast in the morning.
The 3 of us were on a 'working' holiday and we had no problems with staff or other guests. All in all it was excellent value for money - much better than other 'posher' hotels in the area. We are frequent visitors to the US ( 2 trips a year -8 weeks in total) and we will be staying there again.
