Light House Beach Kovalam, Kerala, India, 695 527
... br>Kovalam is a beautiful place, great beaches, great weather, nice restaurants. They are a bit funny with alcohol here. Beer in most places has to be served in mugs like for coffee cos its not allowed to sell alcohol in Kerala. And the wine let me tell you, You can only get Indian wine which is incredibly expensive for Indian standards and even ...

Kovalam, India marie-jo... pull in a net that was full of these small sardine like fish. It was great to see but as soon as they dragged one net full of fish in the sent out another net. It looked like grueling work and I can't imagine they make much money per head on it. After watching the fishermen in action we took a tuk tuk down to the train station to reserve tickets for our 20 hour 1000km train ride to Goa ...
Varkala, India staffyandlyddy... it doesnt get sadder :( 2. RIG (its a private joke sorry but i need it in here for posterity) 3. tripping over my own trousers drying the tents and bruising my knees REALLY badly. there isnt really much else to fill you in on as its just really a beachy place with some nice shopping. the main other point to note is that 3 of my really good freinds who've been on the truck for 3 months took the (probably very wise) deicision to knock 12 hours drives on a truck in this heat ...
Varkala, India nikkiviper... when he offered to drive us around we sprung at the chance to do more sightseeing. As we found out on the early morning ride, there is more than just the beach. In fact we both really loved the villages and towns inland. Kerala is very tropical. It is a lush place and it is easy to see the jungle's desire to constantly reclaim the land. Where houses have been abandoned and old walls have crumbled vines, trees, moss have quickly moved in. Between the deep greens of ...
Varkala, India boatubia... were hanging out of the doorway. Again I had a woman almost sitting in my lap, but all the fun was to be had when we tried to get off. Have you ever tried to get a large backpack from the back of a bus to the door through tightly packed people? I actually thought we were just going to have to stay on but the conductor saw the look of desperation on my face and got us off. What seems like a simple journey when you plan it becomes a major expedition ...
Kovalam, Kerala, India joannecSorry , but you just won't get to see the highlight of Trivandrum. We just could not consider snapping any shot there. Out of decency and to allow others to access the same facility in the future. What are we talking about ? Ever heard of Kalaripayat ? No? Well, Kalaripayat is allegedly the most ancient form of Martial Art, originating right here in Kerala. It involves weapons , daggers, sabers and a shield ...
Trivandrum, India mike-christelle... and the driver just puts it in neutral and trusts all to the handbrake and the donation he makes to the church warden at the top of the hill?). We got to Kottayam just in time to catch an express train south which pulled in to Varkala just 2 hours later; in time for us to get a room, have a swim and watch the sunset. A nice Czech couple we'd met in Kumily did the same journey by local bus and it ...
Varkala, Kerala, India timreis... I had wanted to visit the tip of India for sometime, land's end where three seas met (Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and the Arabian sea) - unfortunately the town itself was a dive, tatty and tacky, too many hawkers. We enjoyed a nice thali at some hotel but a short ferry ride in some rust bucket of a ferry to one of the nearby islets didn't exactly help with digestion. There are two islets very close to the tip - one houses a temple, the other a huge statue of somebody or other. The ...
