      Day 1
      Jeezus - 5am is early. I know I'm not a morning person but ....... Anyway I get organised , coffee and weatbix, and check in at about 5.40am. Good news - I get Boarding Passes for all flights and my bags are checked all the way through to Phuket, which means I can get the Qantas shuttle to the Intermational Twrminal in Sydney.       ... on top of the island. The journey took around 40 minutes involving a couple of steep and narrow paths that the elephants negotiate with ease. On the trip down the hill, the guides get off and the boys are able to ride on the head of the elephant and the elephants wander back of their own accord.       ... quiet side, which had appealed to us. If this is quiet, I'd like to see the lively spots! Clearly there are a lot of vacationers here for the beach. Several people in the water swimming which is a good sign. Everything you need to spend a nice day at the beach is here...chairs, umbrellas, food, drink, etc. The pool back at the condo looks inviting too, so we have some options in dealing with the afternoon heat.

      But tomorrow we clean.....

      ... up to the side of a dirt road on the river bank where we were met by a tiny Thai man who handed us all inner tubes and plopped us in the river.

      Now I'm really at a loss how to describe this rafting trip. The river looked like scenery out of the "Jungle Book" or "George of the Jungle", or maybe "Anaconda" sans bad acting and special effects.
