Day 20 - Te Aroha to Orere Point

... this overlooks Auckland and we could just make out the Sky Tower in the distance. Looked for a Camping ground in the area, only to find there were none!! Either we could head off into Auckland or double back on ourselves about 30 Miles to a campsite we passed earlier. We decided on the latter and stopped at Orere Point Top 10 Holiday Park.

Distance Travelled today – 306 km. Total Distance travelled 3989 Km.

Supercity!

We've finally come full circle to the Supercity of Auckland.  Four main districts form the supercity and our stay was down on the Harbour Waterfront that was built up for The America's Cup race in 2003.  Nearby was the tallest structure in all of the Southern Hemisphere, the Sky Tower.  Got into town just in time for a ride to the top for a view out over the city.

PROGRESS REPORT-6 sleeps to go

... landing -he is going to open the window and wave - we may have to wave a scarf or something. I have just looked at Yerevan time, and it is about 2pm, so this time next week we will be flying high as they say. We will have been traveling or at Airports for near 30hours, but no worries, we are young and fit:):)I am getting the hang of this Blog site, and feel by next Sat, I should be able ...

... games and out to hit the town. A couple of Pierres friends limped out early despite having bigged up their drinking abilities earlier, but 5 of us carried on until later. I'd made Pierre some stupid cardboard Stag horns to wear and they got him a lot of attention - making Helen, his Bride-to-be jealous when she saw the pictures! We also had him doing some stupid dares - kissed by a barmaid (cheek), slapped on bum by bloke (gay ...

Rich n Gee's Wedding (and Auckland)

Home again, well nearly home... but in the same country. Spent a few days milling around Auckland before heading off to Waiheke Island for the first NZ wedding... Rich n Gee. Big up's to Pammy for sorting some accommodation, which had a great view. Not that it mattered the first couple of days as the weather was poo. Didn't stop a great wedding though and it was awesome to catch up with ...

A great welcome and a welcome surprise - Flooze!

... were cruising around Auckland harbour on Stu and Tony's boat with a bottle of wine and a sunny evening to enjoy. It wasn't all sipping wine and enjoying the views of the city though, after Tony and Stu did a little wake-boarding Flooze and I were subjected to the biscuit - basically a large tube they attach to the boat. It's great fun zooming around on a tube behind a speeding boat until you realise that actually you can't signal them to slow down because you're hanging for ...

Big Day Been and Gone

Well the big day was celebrated in style. It started off with a fruit smoothie for breakfast eaten in the spa-pool, followed by a trip to Maraetai for iced chocolates opposite the beach. We then took a trip out to Hunua Falls, which has a lovely waterfall. Had a picnic lunch down at Pine Harbour followed by coffee and cake in a cafe at the marina. In the evening went for a family meal to the revolving Orbit ...

Waiheke Island (Or: Boozing Kiwi Style)

... filled with lots of pretty sail boats. We arrived in Aukland in the evening and headed to a pub called "The Bog" for a drink, mainly because Jeremy spotted the Guinness sign out front. For the first time since we began our trip, I got carded, which I found annoying because the drinking age here is only 18. Shannon, on the other hand, was thrilled. There was a two-man band playing some interesting covers. We heard a ...

Freaky In Waiheke

... aforementioned plans for the evening centred around attending a 'workshop'. Some of you may know the raw, seething animal hatred with which Jacob regards anything not involving light engineering but which is nevertheless deemed to be a 'workshop'. For those of you who don't, Jacob has a raw, seething...etc. "You two are musicians right? You sing and play various instruments?" said Mike, rather tying us in to this 'healing Haka spiritually therapeutic music workshop' thing to which he ...
