... tea and popcorn and arranged some cold cokes for the whole team and for ourselves, tsssshhhh aaaaahhhh! After 4 days of water and tea it is nice to get something else..
In the evening it was time for our evening game of hearts with the camp fire in our hut and afterwards get a good last night on the mountain.
DAY 5: Chogoria Banda’s to pick up truck along Chogoria route => 10 km
... he didn't have to do that and that taking such good care of
me was enough. I didn't want to get into the details of how I can't
bring a chicken with me to the U.S. (nor do I want to-ha).
I picked cow peas (similar to black
eyed peas) for several hours this week- spread over several days.
Again, I can't communicate with my family so mostly we just sit in
silence, which is nice in itself. I realized that I appreciate the
dim lighting ...
... br> Spotted Hyenas are being seen more frequently, with clan numbers
rising to over 20 to 30 members as they congregate when hunting and feeding.
Topi Plains is a good place to see them and early mornings are a good time for
it and also to get a glimpse of them hunting prey. On the 10th at 1.00am in the
morning at Il Moran Camp a large clan of Hyena came through the camp and passed
via the dining tent taking the ostrich eggs and knocking the ostrich bowl ...
... that the Massai Mara was the best place on earth for a safari, so that's where we headed. We met our driver Michael in the rift valley... An immense valley that runs from israel all the way to Mozambique, very beautiful. Our safari bus looked like a minibus but handled like a tank - which is lucky as it needed to on the rocky dirt tracks with all the rain water eroding the tracks away! We had our first obstacle brought on by the rainy season... Although we had already bounced ...
... of info. The next morning we were up early again and off on our game drive. Words can't really describe it......we drove through beards of elephant, giraffe, wildebeest, buffalo, zebra....saw hyena, impala, gazelle, meerkats, warthogs, crocodiles, monkeys, hippos, ostrich, jackal and of course the male lion who paraded around us for a while :) the whole day was amazing, a bit surreal almost.....we got so close to all the animals ...
