    ... two villages with very old traditional gassho-style houses. Gassho means "praying hands". The two villages where very cute but also very very touristic. I will notice that I really like rice fields (I you haven't already noticed that from pictures earlier this trip) and I felt in love with Japanese temples, houses and gardens. In Takayama we visited a folk village with examples of all kinds of different traditional houses from the 17th and 18th centuries. The biggest thing that struck me was how smoky everywhere smelt.     ... and Kanazawa is the centre for these artisan products. It's surprising where the gold leaf shows up .. we were given candies with a few embedded flakes, and I even saw ice cream with gold leaf decoration. I wanted to have some, but there wasn't time to find the shop. I believe it's considered to have medicinal qualities when consumed.
