... relatively save, amongst bags and bags and bags of maize, before shooting in darkness towards the beach. Joy! At least Davie and I could consolidate ourselves with the fact that we can swim, most of the locals can't!
Once on the island we had a whole two days of exploring, relaxing, snorkeling and swimming - as there is only one tractor on the island it was certainly a good place to escape the kamikaze drivers and hectic traffic of the mainland. The kids were delighted to find ...
... bike.
On the way back to town on the last day we had to take one of the staff members as we had no money left and the only ATM is in stone city, he had no helmet.
The police pulled us all up (let the circus begin) no license etc.... we got taken into the interview room by the chief. 5 minutes later we had them all laughing, taking the **** about everything. All of the big problems went away, a $2 bribe and we were on our merry way.
Cheers Miles.
... no one slips in from the ocean.
TIP: If you get the chance, do a Spice Tour, they're actually lots of fun and you get to see things you see in packets in the supermarket growing on trees/ vines/ or even bark! You can often try things fresh too which makes for interesting reactions sometimes. It was recommended to take covered shoes for this but many of us just went for thongs. If it was wet or had been raining I'd recommend shoes with ...
... Zanzibar people try to sell you something just because you’re foreign” one had said.
“Or getting mistaken for someone from here.” another had said disdainfully.
Albert had sat there listening and wound up infuriated, wishing they would forget English and continue speaking in Norwegian as they had been before he intruded because their conversation was really getting up his nose.
Our own conversation unwittingly ...

... us to go on saying "you must go on". It's what Father Roland said. They harass the locals and extract what they can from them in bribes, but they know that foreigners are difficult to get money from. The ferry was almost full, there were no seats that we could sit together, so we split up but all in one row. It was noon and we had not had lunch. Jim thought the better of trying to eat when an employee went around handing out sick bags. I ate granola and drank water, not ...
Zanzibar, Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania jasieniukrtw... uh-huh" in a thoughtful manner. It was kind of funny because the Swahili words for many of the fish were the English names with "oo" at the end. So during the walk, I saw some crab-oo, squid-oo, starfish-oo, sea cucumber-oo and many tropical fish-oo that look like they came from a pet store. It was a very entertaining way to waste away an hour in paradise. So at this point, I really don't have much to write. Its been 4 days here, and I have done very ...
Matemwe, Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania robthebruce... but it was really nice having a friendly face giving us the lowdown of Zanzibar once we were there. Bente drove us to the huts, which were just north of Stone Town on the Zanzibar University grounds. The huts were really nice. One contained 2 bed rooms and a toilet and the other contained a basic open-plan kitchen and dining room. The huts are situated virtually on the beach and watching the sunset from there ...
Stone Town, Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania ccinafrica... dive in the Indian Ocean so I packed up my snorkel and mask and hit the dive centre. I was willing to risk it for the chance to see turtles and dolphins. The dives were in Mnemba, a pretty little Island about an hour away, known for it's abundant sea life. We kitted up pretty fast and hit the water. My god it was hard work. The current was super strong and it actually ended up taking us to the second dive site by mistake. I had to fight hard to go in the ...
kreeg. Hoe ...
