Of course this place has a style all its own we're in Japan! :) Very excited to be here. Destination: Shimoda and our home for 3 nights at Shirahama beach. It's a little surfie town that looks straight out of the seventies. Our plan is to relax after the big city. We're all glad to be here. Only drawback is the rain. We're hoping for some fine ...

We walk to the end and back, it's pretty hot by now. We buy a small bracelet for Caroline at the souvenir shop and decide to head to Izu, our next destination. We need to crossover the Izu Peninsula from the east to the west side. The scenery along the way is pretty, ...

... harbor. But what happened here with the Russians in 1855? Commodore Matthew Perry sailed to Japan twice. In 1853 he presented Japanese delegates with a letter from U.S. President Fillmore. He hoped to open up trade with Japan. After presenting the letter Perry left for the coast of China, promising to return for a reply. Commodore Perry returned to Japan in 1854 to find out that the Japanese had prepared a treaty accepting almost ...
