Marais Poitevin to Rochefort

... space between the wheelie bins and the no parking signs beside the captinerie

We'd been on the road four hours instead of 40 minutes and covered 250km.
There are definite lessons to be learned from this:
1. Do not bother if you have a lazy lunchtime chat first and can't hope to arrive before 2 or 3pm.
2. Plan at least three sites first, especially in a barge on wheels, as you might not squeeze into the first couple of aires you find.

The Gentrification of the Pletzl

... where outside the door is a memorial plaque to a fallen martyr from the neighborhood, and inside the courtyard is engraved in French the equivalent of "Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime." Sadly, the neighborhood is fast becoming a victim of its own success as a tourist mecca. The gentrification of the Rue des Rosiers is taking place so fast that in a few years I doubt it will ...

Keycamp's Revenge

... breaking down 70 miles away from the campsite and having to be towed unceremoniously through the streets on the back of a trailer; several nice castles, horseriding, beaches, an aquarium on Noirmoutier island, real downtime and red-wine in the sun.

Almost time to go home

... weekend in France was spent in Bordeaux, whhich was a great weekend away! We stayed with some of Marie's relatives and visited places around Bordeaux, including a giant sand dune! That Sunday night all the Aussie and French families involved in the French exchange got together and had a "Vendee Dance night" (La Vendee was the area where we all stayed) which was so funny! And I got to have some Brioche which is the yummiest french food ever! The last ...

Bouyae

Caught the TGV to Nantes and hung out with my old flatmate Celine at her parents house. Her 85 year old grandmother spoiled us and cooked lovely hot meals every lunch time. Celine hired a Peugeot 206 and drove us to a different beach every day. Ate fantastic crepes.

The lighthouse

Dylan: In the morning we went to La Rochelle and the Ile de Re. On the Ile de Re we went up to the top of the light house. There were 200 steps to walk up, so it was very tiring. Kit: And we went on a walk out to sea, but we were stopped by the tide. Dylan: Later on we went to Bressiure, which is near Tours. Kit: Tonight we had an American meal. Raymond's Travel Page
