We agreed and got into her little island tour bus (similar to a small safari truck) and waited until she collected more people. About 10 minutes later, she was bringing a group over when another local tour person pretty much stole them from her. So she went looking again. Meanwhile we waited, and waited. The very first morning after their arrival Dave took advantage of Ken’s presence to remove the old diesel starting batteries – weight 80 pounds each – and take them ashore in the dinghy to exchange them for new batteries. Historical Traveler Reviews Lavender Hill Suites Cruz Bay
I read the prior reviews on tripadvisor and saw that excellent reviews were given. This was not consistent with my experience. The condo we stayed in was okay at best. It was relativley clean (only problem was an occasional presence of small ants by the bathroom sink) and had a good view. But this was NOT the peaceful vacation I had hoped for. Here are the problems we encountered:
Friends and I had an incredible vacation while staying in 9E. The view of the sunset from the balcony is breathtaking ! ! The weather was GREAT, the warm ocean breezes were comfortable enough that air conditioning was not needed. The interior of 9E was beautiful, made us feel right at home. The suite has 2 floors with a bed and bath on each floor. We really enjoyed eating dinner on the balcony as we watched the sail boats come into cruz bay for the evening. The pool is very well maintained. If you should need to wash clothes, Lavender Hill offers complimentary laundry machines on the bottom floor next to the pool. The walk into town is very close and easy, approx. 2 city blocks. Cruz Bay offers alot of restaurants and shopping, all within easy walking distance.
Correction: King size bed upstairs bedroom!
I've stayed in 9E and wanted to correct the previous posters comment of queen beds being upstairs and down. The upstairs bedroom has a brand new King bedroom suite! It is so comfortable. And with the bathroom adjoining the bedroom as well as the private balcony, it makes a wonderful master bedroom retreat! The 19" TV and DVD player comes in handy when you're tired at night and just want to veg! I recommend this highly!
Just returned from a phenomenal 8 days at Lavender Hill Suites. The weather in St. John in January was gorgeous, but the penthouse where we stayed made our trip a success! It was 2 floors with a bedroom and full bath on each floor. The upstairs had brand new furniture with a massive King Bed and the downstairs bedroom had a queen. The central A/C was not needed in January but I'm sure it would be nice in the summer. The suite was beautiful and had absolutely everything we needed including hair dryers and curling irons. We also had ironing boards and irons on each floor!
While we travel a lot, Lavender Hill (and particularly Unit 9E) is our favorite location to kick back, enjoy the view, and chill out! This is one of the 4 penthouse units in the 12 unit complex, and far and away the best of the best! The verandah is perfectly positioned to review (and approve!) of all the goings on with boats and people entering and leaving Cruz Bay! We have spent countless hours reading, looking, taking pictures, and just having a great time on this verandah! The little touches here count the most! The chairs provided are just the right height to keep the banister from inhibiting any of the view, the A/C can be used to provide whole unit or partial unit cooling, the comfortable Queen size bed upstairs and downstairs, the open feeling of the great room with no walls preventing the panoramic view of Cruz Bay, complimentary laundry. ample parking, etc. Wow, who could want more? The unit provides a perfect outing for two couples, with the separate bedroom and bath upstairs, and another bedroom and bath downstairs. Flow through ventilation works well if the A/C is not desired, or you have two couples with different heat indexes such as our case with one from Canada, and another from Georgia! And the walk into Cruz Bay is easy (less than 5 minutes) and in view of the unit all the way!
I just returned from a quick trip to Lavender Hill last week and can't believe the difference! The unit I always rent has central a/c now! And the noisey construction has stopped! No more pounding! There was a little activity over there during the day, but the noisy activity I experienced last year is GONE! Plus, with the a/c, I didn't hear a thing! I was out most of the day anyway! I also enjoyed the pool area immensely! There are new white pool furniture! The place looked great! It is so convenient there that I feel like I'm home! I also appreciate the complimentary laundry by the pool so I can still work on my tan while I'm doing my wash! (Very important when you have kids along!) I would highly recommend Lavender Hill to anyone who is looking for accomodations within walking distance of Cruz Bay!
The best bang for your buck!
My wife and I just got back from our 5th trip to St John where we have visited and stayed in most properties in Cruz Bay, and we feel that Lavender Hill is the best bang for your buck! They have a big pool, laundry room, two grills and an awesome view of the ocean. We have stayed at Battery Hill, and it is a mile or more to town. Only Gallows and Lavender Hill are close to the harbor and the town. We recommend Lavender Hill and Gallows Point over all the others in Cruz Bay. Happy Travel!
Cash in on construction woes at Lavener Hill
Cash in on the 'construction-woes' near Lavender Hill Suites - owners have reduced prices because of the construction - jump on it! You will not be sorry. We hit the beach for the noisy time (8:30am - 4pm) or lunched and shopped in Mongoose Junction. The views and the sunsets will bring poetry to your heart - be sure to write some of it down in your travel journal for reflection when you are back on our city streets in the middle of the winter slush. Better yet, be like us - we re-booked for the end of November and again in January - it is the only way we will make it through another blasted winter. Lavender Hill Suites is the best getaway I have experienced in a long time ... and the price is right, right now!
I just got back from Lavender Hill Suites in the US Virgin Islands (and I'm going back again in January). The location was amazing. As we were riding on the ferry from St. Thomas, Lavender Hill is definitely the jewel on Cruz Bay. The manger Jackie greeted us at the dock. She is an absolute delight! She was informative about the island, gave great dining suggestions(Zozo's, 10 Tables, Paradiso), and was extremely sympathetic regarding the construction situation. As we drove to LH you can obviously see that there is a construction site adjacent to the property. Being an earlier riser and my family in desperate need of Beach time. We were out-and-about on the island exploring each day(I believe we hit every beach. Our favorite is Trunk Bay), so the construction didn't phase us much. Jackie and Gary in reservations offered us a lucrative adjustment to our stay. We loved the hospitality, location, property, and convenience, so much. We have decided to book another stay at Lavender Hill in January 2005, because there is nothing worse than going through another North East winter.
