Last stop at the beach

... t discount, so we went to a hotel just across the road which at least had a pool with plenty of sunshine and a pool side cafe (with good food too!).

We settled into one of their better chalet rooms only to listen to rats running across the ceiling; it sounded like small dogs jumping about up there! The rafters at the back of their chalets are not enclosed; all it would take to improve ...

Back to Seminyak and it is at about this point in the trip that we all realise we are ready for home. Tom’s sack of cheap and nasty toys is about to rip it’s seams and even Alex looks like she will implode if another person calls her pretty, asks her name, or how old she is. There’s only so much a girl can take! Tom is also getting worringly good at turning away dvd hawkers “not today thanks!” and I have to laugh. I do ...

We're Going Going, Back Back to Bali Bali

... aside from losing my camera, I'll really miss the islands. Maybe we'll head back someday, who knows. For now, we're back in the thick of it in Bali and we have 4 days before heading to Kuala Lumpur for a night and then connecting on to a mystery destination for a bit. Money is getting smaller by the day (Try sending that $1260 again Mr. Mertz), but we're getting by fine. I saw that the U.S. SHOCKED Espana last week, and play Brazil tonight... shame it doesn't air here ...

WELCOME TO INDONESIA

... to walk up it all the time. Hehe I basically passed out as soon as we got to our hotel room. Angie and Greg made sure I had gatorade and took off to get food and hit up the internet cafe. I refused to stay in the next night so I popped an imodium and hit the town. I thought that a Saturday night would be pumping and was excited to see the famous Kuta nightlife. For whatever reason, it turned out the nightlife was pumping the night before, when I went to bed ...

Bali

... me and Jeff couldn't have been more at home, as two guys who appreciate a good melody we were loving it. We mixed and mingled with the finest Bali had to offer until the early hours before returning to the hostel (ahh the irony) considerably poorer but with the memory of a day that neither of us will forget and with pictures to make everyone jealous. Although this is still a fairly early point in my trip, Bali has been the highlight so far. I have yet to travel to somewhere ...

... with ornamental pools filled with fish. After the palace we headed to Pura (Temple) Lempuyang but got a bit lost en route and found ourselves at a different temple filled with cheering men around a cock-fight! After this detour we finally reached our goal which was pretty cool. Today is the day of the black moon, the local Hindu's held a ceremony while we were wandering through. Outside there were monkeys, unfortunately tied up but ...

... were either full or way above our budget. After a bit more haggling with our boat driver (with our newly-learned Bahasa Indonesia numbers!), he agreed to take us back to the mainland. So, we were way up in the Northeast of Sulawesi and we had three options: 1. Get back on the bus to Manado, and head overland to Makassar in the South where transport options are a bit better. Trouble is, that was a journey Ben had already done half ...

Our Little Slice of Heaven

Scattered all around the resort island of Bali are beautiful little boutique hotels, private getaways for stressed out executives looking for solace from the corporate world, seeking physical and mental relief from the rigours of our capitalist driven society, and looking for a chance to finish that novel that never seems to get past chapter two. We found our little hideaway through word of mouth, at a place called Kajane Mua, and what a little slice of ...

Bali High! Finally in SEA

... T-shirt / sunglasses (especially common in Kuta) Well everyone has to make a buck but you need to be careful engaging with these folks or you may have a new friend for the rest of your stay. So what did we do in Kuta? We spent a portion of our time in the traditional Kuta occupation of walking around and checking out the increadible hustle and bustle of the place. It's not relaxing, serene, or what you would expect of Bali but it's quite a fascinating place. It also has all ...
