... the cockpit watching the sun go down. Pleased to say David's dad is home again after another blood transfusion they have a consultants meeting on Wednesday when we will know what ourplans are going to be. Spoke to my mum as well which was lovely to hear her and catch up on her news, mum is always so busy which is great to hear and Sophie was popping around for a cuppa with her. Still trying to get hold of Rachel she is so busy with work but had a lovely chat with her hubby ...

... around F5-6 straight on the nose. After a short passage we anchored and stuck the weather out. We've been fortunate all along so one or two days of bad weather is not worth complaining about.

The following day we went up the river d'Auray picked up a mooring and then proceeded by dinghy to Auray. Such a lovely little town. Being a Sunday there was nothing open except restaurants but that didn't matter.

... the German submarine defences, as vividly described by Alistair McLEAN still exist. A bit of a disappointment, really. Large city, nothing at the port apart from blocked commercial entrances and a sailing school beside a vast aquarium, which would have taken a whole day to visit. Not even anywhere there to get some lunch! However, this was remedied at our evening stop at Vannes, where we had an excellent meal, including some of the best steak we've ever ...

After Elven we were in need of sustenance. Vannes was our destination, not far down the motorway, on the Gulf of Morbihan. It was easy getting into the centre of the city and found a parking spot (free between 12 and 2 being lunchtime when shops shut) and walked back through narrow cobbled streets - the norm really - and quickly chose a busy cafe with seats outside under the shade. It was clear and getting hotter as the day went on. ...

... one of the many gates through the great stone wall into the old city centre.

The path we had walked on arrival was shut behind gates that wouldn't open until 8am, so I turned back down the hill and came out at the far side of the viaduct - far too high for me to walk across, but I could see a little path going up the grassy bank under the wall behind me and followed that to come out on top of the ramparts further along. There was nobody about but ...
