... at times, but we pulled over and stayed hydrated. The scenery was beautiful, the Payette River is used for whitewater rafting also, though our trip would have been on the Salmon River. The road was twisty and turned to follow the river, with mountains on both sides. The day was the best we could do under the circumstances, we will have time to whitewater raft when we get to Oregon in a few weeks.

June is the beginning of "high" season almost everywhere. The town was very busy, especially on the weekend. Traffic is heavy and there are a lot of people enjoying a stroll by the marina and well as downtown. ... cool city, we didn't see the touristy part of the city to much but we walked the streets and drank some coffee and ate some Irish pastries, they were pretty delicious. We only had two hours there so we didn't see to much, but we had a good time. This was actually a very historic drive as it included parts of the trail that Lewis and Clarke had undertaken as part of their epic journey to discover the north west passage...these two explorers are everywhere around the west coast and I am surprised that they are not as revered as other famous Americans of the time like Lincoln and Jefferson as their contribution was arguably as great.

One of our "fish guy" pals stopped what he was doing and came over to offer his hand as a sign of good will and a good bye. We had a great time working with all of the employees and hosts. The fish people are responsible for all maintenance at this beautiful hatchery. We hope that our efforts as volunteers have reduced their work load just bit.
