... out but I guess it makes sense when there is a volcano not far away :) we also stopped for a look at the red sand beach and then went to the black sand beach for some lunch and free time! Lunch was yumm, shared a Greek salad and chicken kebab with ash then went for a swim and a laze down on the beach. Our last stop of the day was at Santo wines where we had a look through ...
... we keep passing one bus stop after another, but yet decide to keep walking, and keep walking, and keep walking. Next thing you know, we are on a mission to walk all the way up to this town. We are not sure were the town is, but there is only one road heading there. All of the sudden, we see where the town is...hmm...that looks really high up, and really far!! But we were on a mission!! We made it up to the town probably in about 1.5 hours after we had already been walking about ...

porthole. My cabin was next to Rachel’s, though, so I got to hear her sing in
the shower and tell her "gotcha!" when I saw her later. We got a new tour
director when we boarded the ship. Our last one was only for Turkey and our new
one would be for the rest of the tour. Because the ship was so big, it was hard
to find anybody in order to make dinner plans with. I got to have laundry done
on the ship, ...
... with some deeper areas puffing a bit of steam. It was amusing to notice the footwear of all the tourists coming and going- rubber thongs, high heeled sandals etc; one Chinese lady wisely gave up in her stiletto sandals before she got to the top.
The last eruption occurred in 1950 and today the active volcano is monitored to give warnings.
... so gorgeous. I'm based in Thira (Fira) which is the town centre, so it's a fairly short walk up some decent hills to get into where all the action is.
It looks as though it's a very dry island as the land I've seen so far is scrub and very sandy, not all that many trees. Coming in off the ferry the island just looks like one big mountain and the view from the top is amazing. There's a couple of islands close ...
