Ubud

September 18th: I left Pemuteran together with Kathleen (from Paris) for Ubud. We took a bemo to Singaraja and from there a bemo to Sidan and we finally arrived in Ubud. We stay in Gayatri which is clean and cheap (25000 rp)and we have our own terrace on the first floor. The rest of the day we visited some shops that sell art and all kinds of things. In the evening we saw a Balinese dancing performance which was very enjoyable and we celebrate Kathleen's birthday who became 22 years. Septembe...

... coast.
We booked into a small beach bungalow complex with the a swimming pool. Our bungalow is 20 metres from the beach.
Although the whole complex and rooms are somewhat tired, we are getting this all 15 pounds per day incl. air conditioning and breakfast.

We do like this place. As it is out of season and is quiet the bars and restaurants are still open. There are almost no tourists to be seen on the dark 'lava' sandy beach so the beach sellers (who are very ...

Bali the wedding

... 599652810 &l=dcffafe126

The wedding ceremony was fantastic but the day became even more amazing. The reception was on the beach, after the speechs there were some fire dancers!!! It was all fantastic but only the pictures can fully capture it.
Then the band played until fairly late, by which stage all members of the wedding party were somewhat worse for wear. Thanks to Karls free bar.............

No, I am not her mother!

... Aussies, mostly large Shelia types but friendly enough - enjoyed using Spa for waxing and nail treatment. Already I have told at least ten people that No I am not her mother!
Trudy's hair colour (on head) causing quite a stir!
Kuta a busy town, locals poor and quite pushy to buy their goods, big shopping mall by beach - worlds apart from the shops beside the roads. Would you believe they have a Marks and Spencer!!
Haven't ...

... high rocks from which surfers paddled out into the waves, definitely not a place that you go to sunbathe. We climbed up a smaller cliff to gain a better vantage point and I was simply amazed at the view. Crystal clear blue water with the coastline stretching for miles in both directions, green cliffs rising higher than us, this to me was paradise! After spending some time here we headed back inland, had a quick bite to eat and headed off towards Nusa Dua. Flying along on ...

At realising I've in fact become japanese myself (albeit with ancient technology and much better english), I chill out even more and just let the scene unfold. Tomorrow I'm up early to head to the Gili Islands - more sailing on the ocean and good times ahead. On my iPod War - Bruce Springsteen

... while sitting at "Under the Mango Tree", drinking a number of deliciously potent coffees at a mere 1,500 Rp each. I love strong coffee so this is the best stuff I've had yet on this vacation and also (by far) the cheapest. Coffee was relatively expensive in China so I am making up to my addiction for the lost time now. Anyhow I will continue this story later because now it is time for me to hit the pool. Okay I am a geek and brought my computer to the pool deck ...

Bali Hai!

... drinking beer, and wandering the gorgeous beach at sunset. On our second night we went for dinner and had a couple of drinks before returning for what was intended to be an early night. When we got back to our bungalow, however, we were hailed by some neighbours who had borrowed some of our deckchairs. They asked if we could speak some Japanese, and when we said we could (a bit), we were invited to join them for a drink and hence ...

... who just wanted a photo of me. It was really cool. I felt like I was a celebrity for a moment. It was nice to learn all about the Tsunami and to hear the stories from the people. I didn't meet a single person that was not affected by the Tsunami or who hadn't lost a friend or loved one. I had a very nice day with a guide who took me to a beautiful green canyon to swim and then to awesome right-hand surf break. I had a lot of fun as I caught my first ...

Pelaga: "Coffee in the Clouds"

... for more than 50 years, but once finished graciously offered us some tidbits to try. We had barely left the old couple's home when we were invited by another family to have some coffee in their compound. Four teenage boys with large earrings jostled one another upon our arrival, and soon two of them were brave enough to practice their English with us. Meanwhile, a young girl returned from the village faucet with a ...
