... it finally hit me. It was my last day at the school and that I was travelling back home soon- I don't want the experience to end! Saying goodbye to all the children and all the staff I've made friends with during my placement at the school was very emotional. ... day. Sri Lanka was hit hard by the tsunami, and in some ways it was damaged doubly, as I read that the post-tsunami turmoil caused the civil war to heat up again, just when it seemed like the country was on the brink of peace. Thousands more lost their lives in the next 4.5 years of war.
We also visited the maritime museum, because that's what we do in these historic Indian Ocean trade route cities. We got gelato (we were so happy to find gelato again!) ...
