... party. A different band playing a different kind of music at each bar or restaurant, more street performers, and for those that missed Mardi Gras, a little parade comes through with a jazz band and 3 or 4 floats throwing beads to the crowds. It was really a lot of fun and the French Quarter really is beautiful. Next, we shot across Texas to the Big Bend National Park for some back country camping. We had to camp in Marathon, TX on the way and met the neatest couple ...

... the length of their snout - the largest in the park, is reported to be 15 feet long, with a 15inch snout.. Nice to see them in their habitat, BUT would not want the boat to break down, or worse still, spring a leak!!!
At the same Park there is a lovely canopy walk through the tree tops - being mid afternoon, the 4 of us were DRIPPY hot!!! and very glad to return to the aircon of the car, to cool down after our walk in ...

... a luncheon at one of them (Riverwood) for lunch with Chuck and Jan . A lovely traditional style clubhouse with reasonably priced food. Followed by, back to their home to watch the movie "Saving Captain Phillips''........... 5 years ago, Somalian pirates captured a huge container carrier in the Persian gulf, and eventually took the Captain as hostage - a great movie, based totally on this real event .
