    ... to venture downtown to see what it had to offer around these. The town hosted a lovely old quarter topped with a fantastic 11th century castle overlooking the port and surrounds.     ... meant we had to wait until the following day before we could fully appreciate that we really were in the middle of a desert. The resort is lovely, but step outside and you are immediately plunged into a moonscape. You have to travel pretty far to find any greenery, but there are some nice sandy beaches nearby.     ... then on until the Americans seemed to wake up in the last 10 min where they scored 2 - 1 and had 2 other big opportunities to score again. It ended wit the 2-1 so Belgium was through as well. Next round will be against Argentina as they won 2-1 against Algeria so that will be a different kind if match !     ... was packed with sun worshippers. The Spanish seem to have no issue with nudity. The ubiquitous hippy element was in evidence with plenty of people wearing clown trousers and sporting dreadlocks, weaving friendship bracelets to sell to the day trippers.

    On our way back later that afternoon, even more people were heading towards San Pedro with their tents and bags of provisions for the weekend.

    Another circular walk today, up the coast to La Isleta del Moro, a fishing village that still maintains traditional fishing methods. It was inland to the town of Rodalquilar. Up until 1966, gold was mined here and we walked up past the now derelict gold mine. The walk took us through a large mining area evident by the occasional derelict buildings and tunnels going into the rock with signs warning of the danger of entering the mine.
