    ... and then on into Palm Springs. Water used to good effect here - lots of green.

    Went up Chino Canyon 8,500 ft (2 miles) in a tramcar with a revolving floor so that everyone gets the same view. Cost $34m to build and is pretty amazing. Photos from the top weren't good as it was too hazy and it was very cool up there.

    When we left the Grand Canyon it was via the Painted Desert in the Navajo Indian Reservation. These were plain lands, but in no time we were again seeing mountains. This time Humphreys Peak dominated at 12,633 feet.
