The Flying Fish and Uluwatu

So on with our adventure, the whole gang piled into a car and headed to the famous surf spot uluwatu where there wasn't' much surf(Bali standards, not Cali) but a bunch to see. First off in order to get this spot you have to travel down a very steep hill of steps and through a cave to even get to the beach, during high tide you actually have to swim through the cave however when we went it was low tide so it wasn't' as difficult. Uluwatu is considered ...

6 Mar 2009 Alarm goes off - clearly the Otowa waterfalls don't grant wishes overnight - granted, the love of my life appears to be in bed beside me but there is no cash to be found anywhere!!!. Right - onwards and upwards - huge breakfast to be had at the summit of the hotel. Messed around with camera settings last night and finally figured out how to take better pictures of night scenes - you'll appreciate if I ever manage to get them up on ...

Party politics and prattle

... Luckily for me I am not discouraged easily and have begun a campaign of nagging style repetition in an effort to wear down the opposition, currently the opposition is still trying to shut me up... I am offering very favourable odds to anyone who would like to bet on their success?? Less work related is the house party I hosted on Friday! Invited loads of people, whole school in fact along with some extras I have met along the way. Did virtually no ...

Special Boom Boom

... over again. Somehow, it never got old. They would also have us steer our raft right under waterfalls where I would be in the perfect position to be pelted with water (once again Monkey Pee!) The best was the spot where we were able to jump out of the raft and float down the river in our life jackets - so awesome!! Except for the water that went up my nose... let's just say I am a tad paranoid about getting any sort of unbottled water ...

Actually up to date!!! Bloody hell!

... as I would have planned, (sweet potatoes here are as purple as beetroot and also dye food just as effectively - bugger!) but everyone was too polite to make a big deal out of it. Luckily for me I am doing the same thing in a few hours for a cultural evening in with some teachers, (Faw haw, don't chu know!) but should be fun. Hopefully I can lower the sweet potato content and maybe raise up the level of... leek - a ...

... amenities, also because they were nice enough to not really care about what time we were checking out at. To drive away, we took a slightly different road in order to drive along the coast. Great views, tiny villages again and nice beaches, black volcanic sand though. As I was taking the ferry to Lombock (island east of Bali) the next day, my friend was kind enough to drop me of at the harbour and drive the car back on his own to Ubud. Thanks again for that dude !

Island of the Gods

... called Padang Padang, about 20 minutes away. They said it was nice, clean, cheap, good food, away from the chaos of Kuta. I was sold, so I jumped in a cab, practiced negotiating some more, and was off to Padang Padang. I slumped into the cab, exhausted and looking forward to crashing onto a bed. As we continued the drive, it just got darker, quieter, with less and less evidence of human activity. I worried whether the place would even be open this late, as ...

"Solo" in Bali

... disks with grated coconut and palm syrup, sweet mother!). I was out swimming in the water and a local boy Wayan taught me how to surf on a really small board. It was the kind of board that a beginner should not mess with, and i was expecting a few rounds in the laundry machine, but i figured it out a little and i could stand up on it!! He was very nice, but i could tell he was probaby the typical Bali Cowboy - they try to get as much money as ...

Arrival in Bali

... I can carry much stuff with my alreay overladen suitcases so I have got very used to having to say no already. Today we have named vomit valentines as Ben, Bryony and I decided to take a diving/snorkelling trip to a small island off the east coast of Bali. We were not prepared for the crazy waves that we would have to face when we got there however and judging by the green tinges around their faces neither were the accompanying guides/crew. Bryony has never dived before ...
