Our last treat of the day was to stop and watch as the sun set over the island and through "The Split", a strip of land that was one a channel and was demolished by Hurricane Hattie In 1961 which literally cut the island in two. Over the years tidal forces took over and created what is now "The Split" Well, the spectacular sunset really was a perfect end to a truly memorable day.

I found some of the people there racist and on more than one occasion we (and others) were sworn at, cursed at or generally picked on and this was during the day. Did I love the island no way, did I love the snorkeling trip - absolutely - a definite highlight. ...
Caye Caulker: Lobster Fest & Diving the Blue Hole

However, on the way to the Lobster Fest party at the Split, we passed by an impromptu Garifuna drum circle, which was AWESOME. The Garifuna-culture has developed some fantastic rhythmic patterns that are mix of West African, Caribbean and Central American traditions.

We finally do dock, I grab my **** and plod on back to the hostel, feeling pretty dehydrated and legs feeling very stiff. I shower back at the hostel, say hello to some new people, mess around with the kittens again and look out the back door to see an enticing sunset!
