    Day 1

    It is mile 4 and my body has figured out that it is going on another long hike. I settle in to my stride, 28 lbs on my back (most of the weight is water). 2.2 lbs per liter. the desert has been kind. 60 and overcast, with a good head-wind.     ... my disappointed family that something just “came up.” Instead, I decided to watch the rest of the show. While the next pop performance by newly vitalized teenage girls was definitely not as fun to look at, it was entertaining nonetheless.

    We left the Del Mar Fairgrounds feeling pretty good about our evening. We patronized student work/ live music and were rewarded with a strip show free of charge. J

    ... people spoke English than expected - even close to the border - though in San Diego you don't get the blaring mariachi music and quite so many dilapidated one storey buildings as I imagine one might see from Tijuana's deserted railway walk path.
