Caye Caulker - you better Belize it! (crap joke)

... and went to bed pretty damn drunk. 14th May We got up early for our snorkelling tour, only to be told they didnt have the numbers for the morning time slot, and to come back at 2pm. So I decided to get my camera and take some photos of the island, get some breakfast, have a swim and sunbake on our pier and just to relax until 2pm. We had a half day snorkel tour out to the reef. We had three stops, two at the reef, and one to swim with stingrays. The reef was pretty impressive, its the ...

The Northern Cayes of Belize

... place to sun and swim. The Split is where The caye was literally split in two by a hurricane years ago and is now a nice inlet between the Caribean and the flats behind the island. Speaking of the flats, thats where Tracy and I took a sea kayak we rented today. The weather was beautiful and the water was nice. Mostly we just chased down fish and swam around. We're both starting to slow down and chill out alot which is nice. its entirly due to Caye Caulker and we have ...

Swimming with sharks

... cool to start taking photos of each place I stayed, as they are so different--ranging from downright depressing (in other words, just a bed) to cute little houses in prime locations. On Caye Caulker, I stayed at Tinas Hostel, which was right on the beach, had a garden full of hammocks, and was about 100 meters from where the water taxi dropped me off. At night I fell asleep listening to the wind blow through the palm trees in the garden.

Summary of Belize Holiday

... ruins to experience the view of the surrounding hills and river. On the way back to the boat, we see howler monkeys playing in the trees above our heads. On Saturday, our little group of 6 made our way to the dock where we meet up with the Explorer and her crew. Dave, Ilsa and Marie (captain, first mate and cook) made us feel very welcome. We spend the first night anchored just off ...

Snorkelling with Sharks & Manatees on the reef!!!

Day 3 - Snorkelling with sharks on Belize's Barrier Reef, the second largest in the world! The next morning after having a huge shock as we were getting ready when Chika and Travis knocked our door, such a surprise and really good to see them, after making plans to have a drink with them later we set off for breakfast before our days adventure. Meeting everyone at the trip HQ we were kitted out with fins and snorkels and then it was off to the boat. Our captain for the day was ...

Hope to see you all then! --------------------------------------- --------------------------- "Not till we are lost, in other words, not till we have lost the world, do we begin to find ourselves, and realize where we are and the infinite extent of our relations." - Thoreau, Walden

Going slow in Belize

... swimming around and and even touching us. Kept thinking of Steve Irwin, but these rays where of the more harmless variety. At the next site there where large schools of fish, colourful corals, and best of all, reef sharks that swam with us and that we could even touch! All in all it was an amazing day snorkelling! The second (and ...

I had to pee

Of course our first stop of the day was Rasta Man's. Not by choice, but it had become routine. It was just too hard to resist. He would chase us for 2 blocks if we did not stop. It was just easier to give in. Sue and Greg went Kayaking and Tom and I headed to the end of the island to catch the Pirate Ship. We had seen it the day before and just had to go on it. The boat held about 15 people and a crew of 3. Everyone was very ...

First dives in Belize

... a dangerous moment indeed) and then swims with them, taking a ride AND eating all the bits the shark drops. This remoras thinks: 'an Australian shark!' and tries to glue itself to Tony's feed, who is very ticklish and tries to sell it to me. It swims with us for 15 minutes, getting hugs (I know, I know, we are not supposed to touch the wildlife). After the dive, we go back to our new room, where Tomcat puts the ...

... speeches started. The host is obviously a practiced orator as he went on for what seemed like hours, but was probably 20 minutes. Even though both of us speak pretty rusty Spanish, we're pretty sure that they were plotting to overthrow Castro. (You decide if we're kidding on this one.) So all that faded into the background - well, the music didn't - and then a few minutes before midnight, we traipsed up to the roof to watch our friend Audrey spin fire (see photos on ...
