It rained on the top of the volcano as we rode the shuttle. The roof was so ****** people were putting up umbrellas inside the bus. At a mountain stop, a kilo of fresh strawberries was purchased and shared among the fellow travelers, which included an elderly (80+ y/o) couple of adventurers from Australia.
Got to Lovina OK, and will report more on Lovina in the next post. Will upoad pics later.
... t get a lot of tourists in this area. There were no signs indicating where the homestays were, I didn’t even see a local restaurant where I could sit for a minute and gather my thoughts.
Meanwhile, I was being stalked by the local tourist guide, Roddie. I need to learn to enlist the help of these guys rather than avoid them! Being stubborn, I decided to jump on a bemo (taxi van) and ride over to Sampalan, which is another area that ...

A new fast ferry service to Lombar, the Suranadi Express, was starting on the day we wanted to travel. Three times the price of the regular slow ferry but supposedly a one hour as opposed to a four hour trip so we’d get there early in the afternoon. We bit the bullet and booked a ticket fromTopi Inn and they included a transfer for us ...
... resort full of sun worshippers, but we reckoned there would be loads of ATMs that (hopefully) worked, and it's where our flight is from on Wednesday. We had a nice seafood dinner, and I felt a bit sad that I didn't get to go diving in Bali, although the snorkelling in the Gili Islands was amazing, especially when we saw that turtle.
The next morning we took the bus to Kuta after breakfast.
... she wanted. Quite ironically, as soon as we stepped out onto the streets to begin our spree, her shoes completely broke. We walked into a sandal shop and while she tried the first pair on, we bargained with the owner to give us the shoes for the equivalence of $3.50. We bought Sujeni three pairs and a huge smile lit across her round face. I doubt anyone had bought her three pairs of shoes at one time ever before in her life. On top of that, I even doubt she has ever received any clothes ...

Amed, Bali, Indonesia laneandsarah... street. Even that was packed, with motorcycles parked four abreast and cars simply abandoned. People had to walk single file, but at least we were walking now. It takes me nearly an hour to get back to the hotel and this nearby internet cafe. The second portion of this entry was the most deadly hour of my life. I can't even count the number of times I was nearly crushed to death. I am NOT exaggerating... but I got some really good pictures :)
Ubud, Indonesia taralyra06/05: in the morning, our hotel phone does not work. We have to use our mobile to call a mobile in Indonesia via Belgium: ouch! But: pick up at noon. We meet Wayan and ... Tony from Perth, would you believe???? Those Australian Tonys start yapping and do not stop. We are taken to lunch in a very picturesque resto in the middle of nowhere. And I really mean 'taken'. They paid. For the first time in my more than a year travel, I experience ...
Tulamben, Bali, Indonesia tonyandmarina... Willows" villa to pack - I should explain. After Rachel's encounter with Ratty, I came out of my room the next morning only to be "attacked" from above by a rather large frog, which leapt from the roof thatch, onto my head, arm and leg before jumping through the open door into my room and disappearing under the cabinet in the corner. So...I'm now living in Toad Hall with Froggy and Gecko, and Rach is in Ratty's place with Gecko and Mosquitos ...
