... but it was mercifully brief and we felt rather smug. And then about an hour from the warm welcome of the "Angel Band Farm B&B" it started properly. It was heavy, intense – biblical even, to match the Philippi theme! I swear that there was a fellow off to the left loading his cows into an ark. We began the morning lookig out the tent entrance to the misty-fog that is West Virginia. The Allegheny Highlands Trail awaited us. Even better, a coasting downhill section awaited us.
We'd spent a warm night even though the tent is soaking wet. We even got a paved section around Parsons. First land battle of the Civil War was ...

... store a guy stopped to chat about the trip and about his trip in 1983 when he was 37. He rode through Utah. He was so excited for us and wanted us to spend the night at his house 10 miles up the road. We thanked him and said we really needed to ride longer than that. Well, hours later I hear someone yell at us, but failed to see them. About 2 miles later I tell Scott I think those people were the 'biker guy' people. Well, I am stopped to take a photo ...
