Catch up time!
Jun 6, 2008

Well, here is a condensed version of the past week....Our flight left Calgary on time...we had pretty good seats, lots of leg room. Unfortunately, not lots of sideways room. We had a rather larger woman sitting on the aisle that caused Bob to crowd over to the window side, which left both of us with not much room.. Somewhat uncomfortable! The pl...

Clean, spacious contemporary apartment. Friendly & helpful staff around at all times. Ideally situated for bars, theatre, restaurants & just along from Oxford Road station (secure parking is a minute's walk away). Bed & couch were comfy, the room had Sky TV, CD player & internet access. Small but spotless bathroom. Kitchen had everything essential you would need (eg bottle opener, toaster, microwave). As there is no restaurant, you are provided with a 'Breakfast Box' each which contains a variety of breakfast foods including a pint of milk each, fresh juice, bagel, coissants, jam, cheeses, cereal, etc This was a lovely touch & we ended up saving most of it for the car journey home as there was so much! All in all you couldnt pick a better place to stay in Manchester at such a good price, I would have honestly have expected to pay around £180 for this apartment for one night but we got it for £107. Well worth it!

First class location

from A.I.O on 2005-12-30
This was the second time I stayed at these apartments. The first was in March. The first apartment we had was very large over two floors. It wasn't perfect but it certainly wasn't awful.

The next time was in December. On arrival we were greeted by the loveliest receptionist who chose an apartment for us. The apartment was smaller but immaculate and on a par with a suite in any hotel I have stayed at claiming to be 5*.

The position is fabulous being a short walk from all the shops and opposite Canal Street for a fun night out!

I am back there again on January 1st!!

Helpful staff

from A TripAdvisor User on 2005-08-18
We stayed in July 2005 and had a few teething problems, like things in the apartment not working, the fridge on the hottest weekend of the year in Manchester. We were offered a non smoking apartment that smelt like an old ashtray!!!!

The reception staff were very good at offering alternative apartments, which we viewed before moving in. They also offered a refund for the inconvience caused. The chambermaids that was suppose to clean our apartment, failed to do so, however another member of staff was more than willing to right the wrong and apologise!

Be wary of the apartments that overlook the main street and those that face the NCP car park at the rear of the Atrium as they are very noisy.

The location is excellent and some parking is available in nearby side streets.

Great apartment

I only stayed here one night but wished I could have stayed a couple of nights at least to make full use of the room. I loved how it felt like I was staying in my own flat and not just a room. I stayed on the ground floor where they had split levels, I had a nose around my colleague's room which was on the 2nd floor and that didn't have a split level. I did think my room was nicer even though it was on the ground floor, but the traffic noise wasn't loud. The only niggle was that I wasn't given any soap in the bathroom and coffee and tea wasn't left in the kitchen as it was with my colleague - this must just have been forgotten. I would recommend staying here still. Very friendly receptionist.

Great stay whan away from home

from A TripAdvisor User on 2005-06-02
I stayed here earlier this year and while not perfect, was an excellent place to stay, definitely not a hotel much better than that, no feeling of staring at 4 walls. The staff were always very helpful, the rooms were clean and spacious. My only niggles were that the rooms were very warm and the windows only had venetian blinds which were not adequate to keep the daylight from flooding in.

All in all, I would highly recommend this accomodation.

Good for room hopping.

This was our first time in a serviced apartment, my husband works away regularly and often stays in hotels, so we thought an apartment would be more homely. Unfortunately, we got off to a bad start. Photos we had seen on the web gave the impression of large rooms, but we were surprised at how small the apartment was. Regretfully, the room servicing was less than perfect. There were black scuff marks on the wooden floor of the bedroom, crisp crumbs left on the sofa and there were no batteries in any remote controls.

Still, we were prepared to turn a blind eye until we lay on the bed and found the mattress was soaking wet. The situation was saved by the hotel staff, who were very friendly and quick to deal with the problem. We were offered a choice of two alternative rooms. Unfortunately, our final room had a bad draft from a window right by the sofa, which proved to be irritating, but we stuck it out.

Despite our problems, since we barely paid half price for the break on-line, we would say it was a fair deal and maybe we were just unlucky. Apparently, the apartments are due to be refurbished soon, which would be a welcome improvement, but the hotel needs to concentrate on room servicing if they are ever to reach their full potential.

Great beds ....

from A TripAdvisor User on 2005-02-16
We stayed here for two nights over Valentine's in a studio apartment. I was surprised (especially after reading the other reviews) at how little space there was - many hotel rooms are bigger. However, the bed was large and very comfortable, the CD player welcome, the shower efficient and the people at reception and breakfast (pick it up and take it away - copious) nice and friendly. Would we stay there again? It would depend on the deal.

Excellent Hotel

from A TripAdvisor User on 2004-05-04
After staying at many poor hotels in Manchester, this hotel was more than a pleasant surprise. The rooms are huge and immaculately clean, the room contains DVD player/stereo/fully eqiupped kitchen, sparking bathroom. The whole place is stylishly designed, with nice lighting. I would rate this hotel significantly higher than the '5-star' Lowry hotel. 4-stars definately does not do justice to this hotel.

Nice, modern apartment rooms

from JCW on 2004-03-31
The 'Somerset Atrium', as it seems to be called these days, is a welcome surprise. Rather than standard hotel rooms, you're in a modern, stylish apartment. Our studio room was very large, comfortable, and very nicely furnished. Certainly a nice change from standard hotel rooms, and one could stay there comfortably for reasonable length of time.

There's a free continental breakfast available in the lobby; other than that, there isn't a restaurant - but you're very close to the centre of the city so that isn't a problem. A refreshing change, and good value if you search out discounted deals on the Web.

A home away from home!

from darrylpmatthews on 2004-02-01
1st time in an aparthotel and to say that i am pleasently surprised is an understatement. The place is very clean, the staff helpful and the rooms were far better than staying in a hotel! Although the "executive suite" we stayed in was open plan, it did have a seperate lounge/kitchen, bedroom and a lovely stylish little bathroom. CD player, hifi, DVD player and TV.......wot more could you ask for?

Living on the outskirts of manchester I obviously don't spend much time in local hotels anymore, BUT, in future will be staying here to avoid the endless wait for taxis! Superb place - try it, you will be very pleased you did!
