... marble that dwarfed the surrounding houses. Further on we entered a much smaller wat, which was just as magnificent in its exterior decoration and there chatted to a monk who was able to offer us directions to the metro station…..yay! Street food once again for dinner proved most satisfying and this was rounded off with a wonderful shake. It was good to be back in the land of the shake!!
The next day we spent the morning taking it easy and then headed to the tour ...
... We checked in and were shown to our adjoining rooms 112/111. 112 facing the beach and is 30 steps from the waters edge overlooking Bamboo and Mosquito Island and Krabi in the distance. Excellent. At the base of the steps was a large stone planter filled with water with flowers floating on the surface and coconut ladle and wooden mat to stand on to wash the sand from your feet. The King size bed was adorned in duel flower arrangements and the bed spread was folded in oragami style ...
Phuket, Thailand dobboinaus... pool, closed two or three bars, and listened to a couple of very dedicated bands belting out rock-and-roll cover songs at the top of their lungs-even at 0300 in the morning! We stopped for some fries at McDonalds and bounced from bar-to-bar until around 0500 when we finally ran out of money and stumbled back to our hotel. After taking a little break and watching some Hong Kong news, we headed out in the early earlies and wandered down to the beach under a ...
Phuket, Thailand sponger42... Club Med resort. This seemed to label this particular beach as aimed at the somewhat older crowd. And the somewhat older crowd tend to have a bit of money about them, which we don't. Trying to avoid all the expensive places was difficult, we spent a good three hours sat in a cafe thing whilst one of us wandered round looking at places, but we eventually managed to find an awesome place called Southern Fried Chicken to stay (it really ...
Phuket, Thailand emmaandemma... hidden a bit from most of the tourists where there was a lovely concert of traditional Thai dancing going on. Then this morning we got up really early and first caught a flight to Bangkok where we changed and connected for our flight to Chiang Mai. Both flights were with Air Asia (the ryannair of the east) and were surprisingly impressed. We were thankfully met at Phuket airport by the ...
Phuket, Thailand jimandnat... bad, another booking assistant was really annoying. We passed by a little tour agency and decided that we would try them. She was able to get us BanThai for half the price - we booked for two nights and if we decided to stay longer, we were to just return to her and she would get us another voucher for the same price. Back to Kata Beach (Tuk-tuk) to check out and grab our bags, hailed another grumpy taxi driver and off to Patong Beach we go ...

... drags. For $6 USD they will spend an hour cracking your back, twisting your body like a pretzel and generally beating you up. If you visit, try to get one of these every day. Just make sure you choose a store with an older woman in front of a shop with big glass windows where you can view the beds from the other street. Otherwise, you might be buying something ...

Phuket, Thailand travellerhans... to make Loy Krathongs...in Thailand Loy Krathong is a festival celebrated during the full moon in November..."loi" means "to float", and "krathong" means "a raft"...so people make these little rafts from banana trees and flowers, decorate them with candles and incense and let them float free in the river...such a beautiful tradition... it was dark by the time we made and released our loy krathong in one of the hongs, and all we ...
