We ended up in Orvieto sa we saw a friends photos of the catherdral and thought it was a must see. The cathedral was like a mini Florence Duomo, but 100% cleaner as the one in Florence is nearly black on the outside with pollution. The front facade on the cathedral is covered in beautiful gold leaf frescos that were glittering in the afternoon sunshine. Had a wander through the old town which was full of life as ...

... Campo, the famous central 'square', remarkably quiet. Much as I had done in Florence I cycled carelessly through the maze of streets, I had to consult the map a few more times as it is a much more disorientating place, and at one point I was even accosted by a traffic policeman for cycling up a one way street, “Si senor, perdonna”. Even though Sienna is wonderful it is not very big so by lunch time I had covered much of my map so I splashed out on the Observer ...
Prima Porta, Latium, Italy sh3251It is our final day here in Europe. We go and visit the Vatacan Musuem and St. Peters Basillica. The pure magnificence of both was awing. They both are truly two places you must see in your lifetime regardless of your religious background for the architecture and brilliant paintings are worth the wait. As the final day was wearing ...
Rome, Italy clofstad... ll be a load of fun, so I can't wait. Until then, it's a haphazard tour of things in Rome, lunches with people I met in the Firenze hostel and the like. Oh, and don't forget to watch the USA v Italy game on Saturday. It starts at 9pm my time, so check your local listings. I mean really, if you're an American in Italy during this game, you are completely obliged to watch it. Frankly, I hope we win...though then I might have to fear for my safety.
Roma, Italy cpaverill... was going to take about 2 hours. I said, Hell-to-the-no... Went an optional route, and got to see the underbelly of the Basilica... where all the Popes are buried. Including Pope John Paul II. Again, the crowd was a bit much for me, so I rushed through and gave my respects and I was out of there. That was enough Vatican-ness for me for one day! Next stop... Get to the Pantheon. There wasn't really an appropriate subway stop from the St ...
Rome, Italy nyguy79... moment. The church was so simple from the outside, but upon entering it I was taken back by its modest beauty. I sat in the pews, and reflected on what I was experiencing in Rome. Now, I am by no means a Catholic, but being in that church in Rome I could see the power of religion in this region. It is omnipresent. Very interesting principle to be near... that's all I'll say about that. The Forum then led me to Palatine Hill... another site of ancient ruins ...
Rome, Italy nyguy79... Sauce. One more thing... I got an offer to do a showcase in NYC on 42nd Street. It's a new musical about Leonardo Di Vinci and the Mona Lisa. Directed by Michael Unger who teaches my current musical theater class. If getting work in the city is as easy as leaving the country... I should come to Europe more often!!! Alright, I'm off to bed. Need to rest up to catch all the things I missed today... Tomorrow should be better. Until the next update!!!
