Drove back inland today, small winding roads into tiny towns, no one else on the road thank goodness, went through forest areas, olive tree areas, more walled towns, forts, vineyards. ... I want to come back here! One of the striking things about Assisi is how clean it is. People here take a pride in the way their city looks. Very few dog poos on the footpath, unlike Paris. As well as their buildings they take pride in their food. We have never come across so many restaurants and cafes and pasterias. And the cakes! This is why we decided to spend a week in Assisi and not rush from tourist spot to tourist spot. We have valued getting to know some locals and a little more Italian.
