We stopped off for a photo op in front of an old windmill before riding a little further to a cheese farm/ wooden shoe factory (more like a guys barn than a factory) Here we learnt about the cheese making processes and of course the art of making wooden shoes. The farmer however, seemed a little more interested in flirting with the Malaysian girls then actually getting on with chatting to us but there was free cheese so we weren't complaining. Back on the road ...

There were several Rembrandts including "The Wardens of the Amsterdam Drapers Guild" and 'The Night Watch" which are attached. Willem van de Veld was known for his paintings of naval ships I have attached "The Gust" which is of a British war ship floundering in a storm.

I had a great time exploring the controversial district. I am glad I did my research and that it was much nicer than what I imagined it to be. The biggest negative was the fact that we all totally forgot about the time change until we were out on the street at 4 am!

The next morning we were all totally exhausted and all we could think about were pancakes. We found a wonderful pancake house Amy and I split pancakes ...

... fact that there was an open corner store with more milk than a dairy farm two blocks up the road). Graduate school has a way of isolating people, and then, like a lion going after gazelles, picking off the weakest ones (which is most of us at one time or another. The university even has an entire page for grad students entitled "Stress and Depression"). So, even if just because of that, I'd repeat this experience in a heartbeat.

... Amsterdam. We found a basic camper stop (again with our top 2 asks wifi and power, but no showers or toilets) on the North side of Amsterdam. It was just across the water from the city centre but the short ferry ride is free, I knew I liked this country! I cycled to the supermarket for tea, almost coming a cropper as even though they have dedicated cycle lanes they have 2 lanes just like roads, so guess who was constantly riding on the wrong ...
