Dancing haystacks

Dancing haystacks, Lokossa, Benin

I do not remember if I had time to write about this Zangbeto ceremony. Tradition states that voudon spirits move these angry, dancing haystacks. Part of the ceremony includes a moment when the participants turn the stack on its side to show demonstrate the authenticity of the act. No person is underneath moving the haystacks. Also, during the ceremony, a man swallows a razor only to find it in some food later on. The entire ceremony reminded me of a magic show with dancing, drumming, singing, and ritual. If you come to visit me, you may be able to attend a similar ceremony.
