Built from nothing in about 3 yrs, Brazilia replaced Rio de Janeiro as capital city in 1960. It's chief architect, Oscar Niemeyer, had an aversion to balconies (destroying his architectural lines) so the poor people that live here dont get to enjoy the wonderful balmy summer eves.
