In the States as a kid, you grow up imagining yourself driving a car. You may even start saving up for one well before you are of legal age. In Venice, there are no roads, no cars and therefore no such dreams. I imagine the dreams of cars are replaced with those of boats as everyone has a boat and uses it the same way we use cars; ie. people running around the corner to the convenience store to pick up a carton of milk. Strange thought.
