Although you can go on elephant rides in many parts of Thailand, his camp was not aimed at foreign tourists at all. I wondered if that meant that they took better care of them in camps visited by tourists,(which I visited, but found their elephants to be more placated), or they all go through a phase at some time of resisting the tethers.
