3. Roadside memorial
A lonely roadside memorial for a young Armenian man, a soldier in the Nagorno-Karabagh War against Azerbaijan.
In 1998 N-K region called for reunification with Armenia and rejection of Azerbaijan. Since then fighting and occasional ceasfires have continued.
Estimates place casualties of Armenians and Azeris have died in the conflict in the tens of thousands.
Another horror in the country's history and again, one that doesn't receive a lot of media interest, possibly because of longevity, which is odd as this is close enough to the oil fields of Central Asia to be destabilising and certainly discourage tourism.
