05 Meg and two David's

05 Meg and two David's, Florence, Italy

Day 15 - 6:40pm Probably the most famous statue in the world is Michelangelo's 'David', a copy of which stands outside the Town Hall in Piazza della Signoria (the original is in a Florence museum). The 5.17 meter (17 ft) statue, a Renaissance masterpiece, was sculpted out of a solid piece of marble and was completed in 1504, when Michelangelo was just 29 years old. It portrays the Biblical King David at the moment that he decides to battle Goliath, and has become the symbol both of strength and youthful human beauty as it seemingly portrays the perfect physical physique. I personally think his hands are too big. Piazza della Signoria, Florence, Italy. August 28th 2007
