Flying over the mid-west we passed quite a few of these perfectly circular fields of crops, growing in otherwise miles of barren landscape. I've seen these in satellite photos before otherwise I don't think I would have known what they were. They are grown by 'pivot irrigation' - a huge mechanism at the centre of each field, with an arm that stetches the entire radius and swings around, hence the perfect geometric shapes.
